WrapAround
What is WrapAround?
The WrapAround program is offered to families who are interacting with the Child and Family Services (CFS) system, or are at risk of involvement. The purpose of the WrapAround program is to support families to identify their goals, and to create support plans and networks around them.
WrapAround may be a good fit for you if your family is:
- Encountering difficulties in navigating systems or resources
- Involved with a family enhancement program through a CFS agency
- Separated due to apprehension
- Seeking clarity from CFS agencies
- Looking to increase visits with your children
- In the process of reunification
- Building attachment and long-term stability after reunification
- Staying connected through long-term care placement
What you can expect when you participate in WrapAround:
Individualized support:
- If you choose to work on a plan for your family, you will be linked up with a supportive and caring staff member who will meet with you regularly
- You will share a bit about your family’s story, and be supported to set goals for yourself and your family
- You and your support person will create a plan for your family to work towards the goals you identify. This plan can include accessing additional resources at Acorn Family Place such as: counselling, parenting workshops, basic needs resources, childcare, etc.
- You will be assisted in identifying current supports in your life, or supports that you desire to become part of a wraparound support network for you and your family
- You will receive support from WrapAround staff to navigate systems (EIA, CFS, Health, Housing, etc.), communicate with your CFS worker and/or lawyer, arrange visits, and work on your goals
- You will have the opportunity to have visits in our on-site playroom through our Access Program if that is well suited to your family plan
Group support:
- WrapAround Drop In: Peer connections are vital to reducing isolation and enhancing knowledge when navigating systems such as CFS. Every Monday, WrapAround hosts a drop in where families experiencing CFS involvement can make connections and engage in recreational activities together
- Sharing Circle: Once a month, there is an intentional time for parents and caregivers who are navigating CFS to come together and share their experiences within a supportive group of staff and peers
- WrapAround Advisory Council: Once a month, participants of the program are invited to gather and provide their knowledge and skills through feedback on program activities and direction. This group is vital to ensuring that WrapAround is participant-led by those who have lived experience and current engagement with the program. Through the advisory council, further leadership opportunities are created!
- Cultural Connection Opportunities: At least once a month, WrapAround hosts opportunities to connect with culture and learn from knowledge carriers in the community. Opportunities include medicine stewardship and picking, teachings, engaging with traditional art, creating ribbon skirts, or participating in a culturally-informed group called Waywaynay, which walks participants through a series of sessions that look at relationships we have with substance use.
