Manager of Programs (Interim)
Reporting to the Executive Director, the goal of the Manager of Programs is to oversee the
development and delivery of quality programs to support the wellbeing of families with young
children in our community-based family resource centre context. This is a one-year term position
(parental leave coverage) with possibility of extension.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Leadership
- As part of AFP’s staff team leadership, participate in initiatives that strengthen the organizationas a whole, external networking, development of organizational policies and procedures,participation in committees, staff wellness and professional development initiatives
Program Development and Oversight
- Work with Program Coordinators to develop or update design and delivery of programs and services, with a focus on programs serving parents and caregivers, including work planning, conducting evaluation, data collection and analysis, and staying up to date with the evolving needs of the community and best practices in the field
- Program areas under Manager of Programs’ supervision currently include: Counselling, WrapAround, Wellness Outreach, Personal Development (may evolve over time)
- Apply for and report on grants to provide funding for programs, manage program expense budgets
- Develop and maintain program partnerships
- Support and participate in broader initiatives of the family resource centre such as family outings, special events, committees, staff meetings, professional development, back-up coverage or other staff, and daily operations
Staff Supervision
- Directly supervise employees involved in program coordination and direct service, assigning tasks, offering coaching and feedback, debriefing, consulting, and problem-solving
- Participate in identifying program staffing needs and recruiting, hiring, and training suitable candidates for available positions
- Identify and support relevant opportunities for employee mentorship and professional development
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in social work, community development, or related field (comparable combination of education and experience will be considered)
- At least 5 years experience working in non-profit, community based organizations and/or social services
- At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role
- Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs
- Familiarity with local resources and established relationships in local communities an asset
- Knowledge in areas of parenting/caregiving, mental health and wellness, community development, crisis response, and system navigation (CFS, EIA, Housing, Health, Justice, etc.)
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, comfort with tasks including writing, work planning, computer use, data collection and analysis
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal – ability to adapt to different audiences
- Conflict management and de-escalation skills
- A collaborative, supportive approach to teamwork and leadership
- A strong understanding of the impacts of colonialism, racism, trauma, poverty, mental health, and other factors, on the lives of families
- Empathy, approachability, sensitivity to and demonstrated ability to work in a cross-cultural context with diverse populations

Employment Specifications
Anticipated start date: October 16, 2023
Hours: 37.5 hours a week (9am-5pm, Monday- Friday, with the possibility of occasional evenings or
weekends)
Term: 1 year term (until October 31, 2024), with possibility of extension
Salary Range: $26-30/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience
