November 2019 Newsletter

November in the playroom

The playroom has been busy enjoying music circle again on Mondays from 11:30-12:00 and welcoming special guests to read stories both in our playroom and in the drop in. If anyone is interested in sharing their favorite picture books (in any language) with the children, please see Christine or Bev in the playroom or call Christine at 204-560-3148. The children have been having fun playing with a pumpkin Bev grew in her garden. It has been painted, stickered and bathed. It is amazing how the children come up with new ways to play with it every day! In addition, stumps from our old side yard at our old location have been cleaned and sealed by a volunteer and have been added to our ‘loose parts’ area and the children have been using them as lily pads, towers, tables and chairs and a whole bunch of other things. The playroom staff would like to thank the volunteers that have been putting time into our playroom. Your efforts and time have really helped us make the playroom clean, organized and welcoming to all our children and families.

Music Circle

On Mondays at 11:30 a music therapist joins us and she leads parents and children in a ½ hour of singing and stories. Children learn songs, do a little dancing and make a lot of wonderful noise. November 4th, 18th and 25th.

For parents of tweens and young teens November 21

WFP will be hosting an evening to discuss how parenting has changed now that our children are in the double digits. Using the Triple P curriculum we will explore the gifts and the challenges of parenting children at this age. To register call 204-560-3147 or email parenting@wfpwpg.ca

Cooking Class/Healthy Together

Join us as we discover ways of being healthy together! Each session includes fun games, activities, and an opportunity to cook and enjoy wholesome food together. Kids are welcome to participate! November date is the 18th from 1:30-3:30. Sign-up sheet available at 1:00 in the drop-in.

Golden (Parent Agreement) Rules

Here are some helpful guidelines for agreements between two or more parents to help with successfully co-parenting of a child.

It is in our children’s best interests to have two parents who love and care for them involved in their lives on a regular basis

We will treat each other with respect at all times

We will not use condescending or derogatory terms in exchanges with each other or in front of or in earshot of the children

We agree to make our child’s needs more important than our own needs for territory or independence

We agree to respect the other parent’s time with our children and not interfere with the scheduled agreement

We agree to respect the other parent’s parenting style and discuss any concerns at agreed-upon communication times and via agreed-upon methods

Any disagreements or areas of potential conflict will only be discussed at designated times and not in front of or in earshot of the children

We agree to follow the parenting schedule by always being on time for the children

Any changes to the schedule must be discussed with the other parent first, prior to informing the children

We agree never to say negative things about the other parent to or in front of the children

Our children will not be placed in any loyalty conflicts and will not be encouraged overtly or subtly to take one parent’s side against the other 

We understand that we may be divorced, separated, or never married, but we will always be the parents together for the duration of our lives or the lives of our children.
